Josue ruhamya – GOma - Democratic Republic of the Congo
Introducing Josue, a 16-year-old emerging star from the resilient city of Goma in the DRC, surrounded by the love and support of his twelve siblings. Goma, the bustling capital of North Kivu Province, bears the scars of its recent tumultuous history, from volcanic eruptions to the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide and subsequent Congo Wars. These events have shaped the region's landscape and its people's spirit of endurance and resilience. In late 2012, Goma witnessed the M23 rebellion but has since reclaimed stability under government forces.
Josue misses his family every day but is grateful for their support and (inspiration) confidence that they have instilled in him to come to the United States to receive the best education possible and to mature in his athletic ability.
Josue loves his Anthem Prep family, the education he receives, the schoo environment. While Utah is very different from Goma, Josue loves Salt Lake City even though he has had to adjust to the cold temperatures, he has had an amazing experience so far.
Josue's preferred dish, Fufu, is a beloved staple in many African countries, known for its doughy texture and role as a versatile accompaniment to various soups and stews, mirroring the rich culinary traditions of his homeland.
With aspirations to join the ranks of esteemed basketball programs at Michigan State, Duke University, or the University of Kansas, Josue is not just a dreamer but a dedicated athlete poised for greatness. Currently in the 10th grade, he has a passion for language, choir, and music, subjects that intrigue his analytical and creative mind.
Josue's journey from Goma to the basketball courts is a testament to his resilience, intelligence, and the unyielding support of his family. As he continues to excel in academics and athletics, Josue stands as a beacon of hope and a symbol of the potential within every young athlete.
